When going to a casino to play poker, of course, your goal is to come home victorious – more money in your pocket than when you walked into the casino, hours earlier. There is more than one way this could happen.
Most often, you will be a winner if you are really skilled and enjoy your fair share of luck playing your favorite poker game. That evening, at the Hustler Casino in Redondo Beach, California, I enjoyed an alternative route to that destination.
I was on a $ 4- $ 8 limit hold’em game with ½ kills. At first, I was fine, and even comforted by the thought of quitting before differences might catch up. I visited mcbpoker. But it’s too early, I thought, and besides the table is “good” – lots of opponents are loose-passive.
Then, my luck turned bad. What can you say when you flop the top two pairs, betting all of them, only to lose one small set on the river? It hurts to cross the river. You practically count your winnings when – ZAP – is like a sharp slap in the face, a win is “stolen” from you.
Of course, we are all aware that being a river is a fact of life at the poker table. You can do all the right things, like bet your top two pairs – and still lose on the river by the two outermost little pairs. But the game went on.
It wouldn’t be that bad if it was an isolated incident. During my 6 hour poker session, without counting my four bluffs (all of them worked), I counted 14 wins (roughly equivalent for the course), including 11 wins leading up to the fight. Meanwhile, I suffered the same number, 11 losers during the fighting.
From the 11 losers, I was dragged 5 times! That’s an extraordinarily high ratio; but it’s poker. I managed to win one hand where I crashed into the opponent, getting lucky when I caught the runners for the flush nut while holding the top pair on the board against – without my knowledge – the opponent straight on the flop.
